One of the "Grails" for Méliès freaks.
First edition, very rare and numbered limited book, only 2500, published in French, it consists of writings by the aforementioned authors, as well as lengthy excerpts from Méliès' own memoir. Its most interesting sections containing detailed synopses and shot descriptions of some of Méliès greatest films. It is profusely illustrated throughout with stills, very rare original sketches by Méliès, and other fine treasures.

conseguir. Primera edición limitada original de 1945.
 
Publicado en Francés, solo se tiraron 2500 ejemplares numerados en 1945 de esta versión original, ya que en 1961 se reimprimio por motivo del Centernario del Nacimiento de Méliès, pero esta re-impresión no es tan bella como la original. Consiste de escritos de los autores, asi como de grandes fragmentos de las Memorias de Méliès escritas por él mismo. Profusamente ilustrado con fotografias, dibujos originales de Méliès muy raros, y algunos otros tesoros, lo que lo hace una pieza muy valiosa.

Iconic scene from one of the fantastics film representing the Sun. On the backside is written on typo “MÉLIÈS - 1904 - VOYAGE A TRAVERS L'IMPOSSIBLE - tableau 20”. Maybe was printed from a negative of the film tp be incluided on the Bessy book “Georges Méliès, Mage’ et ‘Mes Memoires par Méliès” (see this ehibition previous piece, page 110, Le Lever du Soleil, tableu 20) where reads as part of the film “Voyage a Travers L’Impossible”(1904) but deeper research points that is from the film “Eclipse de Soleil en Pleine Lune” (1907), another master work of the Great Montreuil Magician.
 
 
Procedencia: Perteneció a la Colección Privada de Maurice Bessy. Comprado a un coleccionista frances a travéz de la galería MUSE XX de New York.
 
Antigua y rara impresion en gelatina de plata de una figura icónica en la cinematografia
fantastica de Méliès. Se encuentra en perfecto estado y la impression es de muy buena calidad. En el reverso tiene escrito a máquina “MÉLIÈS - 1904 - VOYAGE A TRAVERS L'IMPOSSIBLE - tableau 20” y unas marcas a lapiz que no dañan la calidad de la imagen.
 
Formó parte de la colección del eminente historiador de cine Maurice Bessy, fundador del Festival de Cannes y autor del libro “Georges Méliès, Mage’ et ‘Mes Memoires par Méliès” (ver pieza anterior de esta exhibición) y seguramente se imprimio directamente de unos de los negativos originales de la pelicula para ser incluido en ese libro (pagina 110, Le Lever du Soleil, tableu 20) en donde dice formar parte del cuadro 20 de la pelicula “Voyage a Travers L’Impossible”(1904). Sin embargo, una investigación mas profunda nos muestra que en realidad pertenece a “Eclipse de Soleil en Pleine Lune” (1907), otra obra maestra del gran Mago de Montreuil.

A receipt signed “G. Méliès” confirming payment to the New York branch, managed by his brother Gaston, of his film company Manufacture de Films pour Cinématographes. It is written in French and states “Recii de Monsieur G. Méliès Manufacturing & Co. de New York, la summe de of 372.92 Francs pour solde de vos statements nos. 76, 77, et 78.” 1913 was an especially difficult year for Méliès whose company went broke.
 
The receipt is on beautiful “Manufacture de Films pour Cinématographes” stationery, with Méliès’ name printed throughout. The document is in fine condition and clearly legible, although there are three distinct file holes on the left-hand side from its original filing. This payment was certificated with a trade seal cancelled stamp.

Recibo firmado por “G. Méliès” Confirmando un pago a las sucursal de New York, manejada por su hermano Gaston, de su empresa de peliculas Star Film, Manufacture de Films pour Cinématographes. Esta escrito en Frances y dice: “Recii de Monsieur G. Méliès Manufacturing & Co. de New York, la summe de of 372.92 Francs pour solde de vos statements nos. 76, 77, et 78.”
 
1913 fue un año particularmente dificil para Méliès cuya empresa fué a la quiebra. El recibo tiene un bello membrete que dice “Manufacture de Films pour Cinématographes”, con el nombre de Méliès’ impreso a lo largo. Esta en perfectas condiciones y es claramente legible,  aunque tiene tres hoyos en la parte izquierda debido a su almacenaje original entre los archivos de la Star Film. Esta certificada la operación con un sello cancelando una estanpilla mercante.

The grail of Méliès books. Hopelessly rare, but absolutely superlative. The first half or so is finely written bio-history. But the real treasure is the last half-plus, which consists of a film-by- film chronology of dang near every film he made, providing detailed scenarios, production details, and even info about which film archives have the surviving prints. Amply illustrated throughout.
 
 
El "Santo Grial" de los libros sobre Méliès, por su rareza y dificultad de encontrar. La primera mitad esta muy bien escrita sobre su vida y una amplia biografia. Pero el verdadero tesoro es la segunda mitad, que contiene una cronología película por película de casi todas las producciones que hizo, con escenarios detallados, notas sobre la producción, e  incluso información acerca de que archivos de cine tienen las copias sobrevivientes (al menos en el momento en que fué escrito). Tambien esta ampliamente ilustrado.

Three of the mos fantastic and magic Méliès films. They were shot on the beginning of the past century. Most of these films was sell by Blackhawk for home distribution on the US.

Montreuil-sous-bois, a bustling suburb of Paris.
Georges Méliès built the world's first film studio in 1896 on the avenue du Président Wilson
where he invented the process for optical illusions and special effects in cinema. Today, the local movie house takes his name.
 
Emile Reynaud, the father of animation, was born in Montreuil in 1844 and set up his workshop in town. Inventor of the praxinoscope and the optical theater, his inventions were put to use in 1892 in the famous Grévin Museum, and are still used today. Charles Pathé, one of the first big-time film producers, set up his studios at 52 rue du Sergent Bobillot, from where he also distributed the films of Méliès.
 
On this bonds, a dense yet delicate tapestry of yet further art nouveau designs from seashell suns to playful flowers fills the entire lower half of the document, which is devoted to 6 rows of
coupons (totaling 30, not one of which has been clipped) and 9 more of the red logos. Numbered action No. 1,057 on May 1st, 1919.
 
 
Montreuil-sous-bois, es actualmente un agitado suburbio de Paris. Ahi construyó Georges Méliès en 1896 el primer estudio de cine en el mundo en la Avenue du Président Wilson, donde inventó sus procesos para ilusiones ópticas y efectos especiales para cine. Actualmente el cine local lleva su nombre.
 
Emile Reynaud, el padre de la animación, tambien nació en Montreuil, en 1844 y estableció su taller en el pueblo. Fué inventor del praxinoscópio y del teatro óptico. Sus invenciones fueron usadas en 1892 en el famoso Grévin Museum, y aún se usan en nuestros dias. Charles Pathe, uno de los primeros grandes productores de cine, estableció sus estudio en el 52 Rue du Sergent Bobillot, desde donde tambien distribuía algunas de las películas de Méliès.
 
En este juego de acciones finamente impresas y preservadas, se observan delicados grabados y diseños artnoveau que van desde conchas y soles hasta un patrón de flores que llena la parte baja del documento, que tiene 6 filas de cupones (30 en total) cancelados por 9 sellos de logotipos rojos. Esta acción de 500 francos al portador esta numerada como No. 1,057 el 1o. de Mayo de 1919.

Beautiful print with colorful images of magic tricks, demons and objects around the central portrait of the the magician Robert-Houdin, signed by "Affiches Americaines Ch Levy. 4 Rue Bouchardon, Paris". The Theatre was in 8 Boulevard des Italiens. It was bought by Méliès in 1888, who reuse the tramps, scenarios and trick installations for his very own tricks and to project his films.
 
Bellisma impresión con coloridas imagenes de trucos de magia, demonios, y objetos alrededor del retrato central del gran Mago Robert-Houdin, firmado por "Affiches Americaines Ch Levy. 4 Rue Bouchardon, Paris". El teatro estaba en el nuumero 8 del Boulevard des Italiens. Fué posteriormente propiedad de Méliès en 1888, quien lo reconstruyó, rescato y reusó trampas, escenarios e istalaciones para sus propios trucos y para proyectar sus películas.
