This is the best book on the filmmaker written in Spanish. The author made a great research on Méliès work and life. Some essays analyze in deep the art, psique, evolution and invention of fantastique cinema.

Part two is an interesting interview with Marie-Hélène Méliès.

Third part is a very detailed filmography from 1896 to 1913. Includes film descriptions, catalog numbers and some technical details.

Este es el mejor libro sobre el cineasta escrito en Español. El autor hace una gran investigación sobre la vida y obra de Méliès. Algunos ensayos analizan profundamente el arte, la psique, la evolución y la invención del cine fantastico.

La parte dos es una interesante entrevista con Marie-Hélène Méliès. La parte tres es una filmografía muy detallada que va desde 1896 hasta 1913. Incluye descripciones de las películas, número de catalogo y algunos detalles técnicos.

Méliès wrote the whimsical script, acted in the film in the lead role, designed the sets and costumes, directed, photographed, and produced the film. He hired acrobats from the Folies Bergere to play the lunar inhabitants named Selenites, and the scantily dressed assistants (or pages) who launched the cannon were dancers from the Châtelet ballet.

Méliès escribió esta história, actuó en el papel principal, diseño los escenarios y vestuarios, dirigió, fotografió, y produjó el film. Contrato a acrobatas del Folies-Bergere para interpretar a los habitantes de la Luna, llamados Selenitas. Los asistentes vestidos pomposamente, o pajes, que lanzan el cañon, eran bailarinas del balet Châtelet.

El Premio VES (VES Awards) es el evento más pretigioso en el ocupado calendario de la VES, ya que paga tributo a las leyendas y lideres en su campo. La Visual Effects Society (VES) entrega el "George Melies Award for Artistic Excellence" para honrar a cineastas que han sido pioneros y dejado una perecedera contribución en la historia del cine. Han sido galardonados con este reconocimiento Robert Abel (postumamente) y John Lassetter, de Pixar Animation Studios.

The renowned magician, Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin was born in 1805. The name Houdin was actually his wife's maiden name, which he attached to his own to create the stage name. Before he turned his attention to theatrical magic Robert-Houdin had been a clock maker, a complex mechanical trade which provided him, likes Méliès at a later date, with some of the important skills required for the execution of magical illusion on the stage. He did not become a professional magician until he was nearly forty and his active stage career lasted only eleven years. In 1845 Robert- Houdin purchased a small theater inside the Palais-Royal in Paris, where he performed regularly until 1852, except for the closing of the theaters during the revolution of 1848 and his trips to England to perform before Queen Victory. In 1852 he reestablished his theater on the second floor at 8 Boulevard des Italiens. This new theater, which seated only 160 persons was decorated in delicate Louis XV style and elaborately equipped with all of the traps, tricks furniture, and electrical devices necessary in a theater devoted exclusively to magic. After 1856 Robert-Houdin retired from the stage and returned to his country home in Blois where he died in 1871.

El renombrado mago Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin nació en 1805. El nombre Houdin fué en realidad el nombre de soltera de su esposa, que unio al suyo para crear su nombre artístico. Antes de que le llamara la atención la magia, fué fabricante de relojes, una complicada habilidad mecánica que le ayudo mucho y aprovechó en la ejecución de ilusiones mágicas en escena, al igual que Méliès posteriormente. No se convirtió en mago profesional hasta los casi 40 años y su activa carrera duro solo 11 años. En 1845 Robert-Houdin adquirió un pequeño teatro dentro del Palais-Royal en Paris, en donde se presentaba regularmente hasta 1852, excepto cuando cerraron los teatros durante la revolución de 1848 y sus viajes a Inglaterra para presentarse ante la Reina Victoria. En 1852 reestableció su teatro en el segundo piso del número 8 del Boulevard des Italiens. Este nuevo teatro, que solo tenia 160 asientos fué decorado en un delicado estilo Louis XV y equipado con elaboradas trampas, muebles de trucos y dispositivos electricos necesarios en un teatro dedicado exclusivamente a la magia. Después de 1856 se retiró de los escenarios y regreso a su casa de campo en Blois, donde murio en 1871.

This photo was part of the special exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image (February 3-June 12, 1993).

Photo features a 3D display panel based on ‘Erotica’ films produced by Méliès on the early 20th Century. Actually, the film shown what is called "gallant astrology" with planets and stars as beautiful women.

Esta fotografâ fué parte de la exhibición especial en el Museum of the Moving Image de Londres del 3 de Febrero al 2 de Junio de 1993. La foto muestra un panel tridimiensional basado en los filmes "eroticos" producidos por Méliès a principios del Siglo XX, pero en realidad son ampliaciones de sus llamadas "astrología galante" en la que siempre mostraba los astros, planetas y estrellas representados por bellas mujeres.
